PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

Prior to being elected, I served as the Executive Assistant and Community Relations Specialist for the Neighborhood Commission of the City and County of Honolulu. As the Branch Administrator for MedQuest Customer Services Division for the Hawaii State Department of Human Services, I was humbled to have my department win the coveted “Governor’s Employee Team of the Year” in 2003. I was the Office Manager for the Waipahu Community Association and was responsible for coordinating the very first Taste of Waipahu. I served for twelve years as a Senior Advisor at the Honolulu City Council and also worked for many years at GTE Hawaiian Tel, as well as Office Manager for John H. Payne Inc., international agricultural consultants.

My diverse professional experience in both the private and public sectors gives me a broad perspective on issues affecting our state. Since taking the oath of office for the first time in November 2008, I have been honored to serve my community as the state senator of district 18, representing Mililani Town, Mililani Mauka, Waipio Acres, and Waipio Gentry..

DONATE

Please allow me to serve you for a third term.  Any donations and other support towards my re-election efforts would be very much appreciated.

HAPPENING IN THE COMMUNITY

I have devoted as your Senator making sure all our residents are treated fairly, that we are providing help to those who truly need it and that we are allocating state resources to its best uses.

Leeward Community College dedicated its new Teacher Education Building in August.  It's the culmination of more than 20 years of planning to help meet critical teacher shortages in Leeward and West Oahu area public schools. I was honored to be asked to speak at the dedication.

FUNDING FOR KEY AREAS

As Chair of the Senate Education Committee, Senator Kidani has been responsible for making important decisions on capital improvement projects throughout the state.

CHARTER SCHOOL GOVERNANCE AND ACCOUNTABILITY

Charter schools have become a visible and important component of the education system in Hawaii.  It is imperative to clarify the duties and responsibilities of the Charter School Review Panel and the local school boards to ensure that all charter schools are using state dollars effectively and transparently while still keeping their identify and meeting their educational goals.

SUPPORTERS

" I have known Senator Kidani for more than 25 years.  I have seen how she works on problems brought before her and see that they are resolved.  As the former Chief of Police, she contacted me on many occasions about patrol beats and coverage of these beats in Mililani, Waipio, and Waipahu communities.  She will ensure that the State operates efficiently, openly, and cohesively to enhance the quality of life for her constituents and the community as a whole.  Please re-elect Senator Michelle N. Kidani. "

" We're supporting Michelle 100%! As a long time community leader, and now as our State Senator, Michelle has worked tirelessly for our community, our schools, and for the future of our young people.  Her leadership talents are recognized in the Senate where she serves as Vice Chair of the all important Ways and Means Committee and where she has been a strong advocate securing needed funding for our schools and other projects in our district.  We need her voice and her integrity and we hope you join us in supporting Michelle. "

My most rewarding moments as a Senator has been meeting and talking with literally hundreds of people I encounter at community events, legislative forums, in our wonderful schools or just about anywhere I happen to be in our communities.  Enjoy some of these moments...
